These photos were shot near Chappell, NE. I shoot with a Canon 10D and a Canon D1, using a variety of lenses from the Sigma Professional Series 17-35mm, 200mm and the Canon 300mm. The variations in color and highlight will vary from frame to frame given the different exposure settings for each shot. All photographs are shot in RAW format (I go through several cards) and processed through photo shop with minimal digital adjustments. The blue-greenish color that you see in some of the storm shots are truly what the sky looked like (Hail). #395 was given my own, artists touch, in photo shop to accentuate the dark areas. I plan to frame this one for my home.

#401 Note the Tornado is moving away from us and
becoming wrapped in rain, by the time we made it to the area of circulation the
tornado was roping out. Or so we thought, when suddenly in one last ditch
effort, this powerful storm spun up hard out of the rope stage as you can see in
the next photographs. In the next to last frame(#4409) the funnel is becoming
detached from the main portion of the updraft. Some trivia...the person in the
car closest to the funnel is none other than Mr. Scott Blair. Scott approached
me at the 2005 National Storm Chaser Convention and let me in on that little
tidbit. I always wondered who on earth was in that car!

This tornado was just east of Webb City, iowa on Hwy B63

We went north on county road N28 to just south of the town of
Ayrshire, Iowa. The circulation went on east B 53, we were not convinced that
we wanted to continue on that circulation because it seemed to have weakened.
Just at that moment in time, we looked to our west and were mesmerized at what
we were seeing. A seemingly small beautiful white tornado was dancing across
Silver Lake towards us as it got closer and closer we realized that it was not
that small and then it lifted. This storm had a powerful RFD.

Holding our position at intersection N28 (Hwy 314) and B53 the
wall cloud began to form rapidly and a tornado touched down just north west of
the intersection. The tornado rapidly grew in size. The next few frames take
you through the duration of the tornado and as you can see the tornado roped out
and then detached from the base.

Amazingly, after the rope tornado detached from the base, the wall cloud continued to spin. It spun really hard and formed a very breif funnel as you can see in the last frame. Unbelievable!
