The storm chasing group spent the previous night in Pierre, SD and began our chase early the morning of the 28th.  We had a long, long way to go into NorthEast North Dakota.  Before we left Pierre Jeff and I took some photos...this is a beautiful city and we look forward to visiting again.

This day we put many, many miles on our vehicles but the CAP - composed of a layer of warmer, dryer air aloft which may suppress or delay the development of thunderstorms. As air rises, it becomes cooler relative to the ambient, or surrounding, air in the cap and therefore, less buoyant and unable to rise further. Also referred to as a lid. came in and held the storms back...
